If you want to love me let me know Otherwise I'll pack my bags and go I have tried, Lord I've tried to make you mine If you can't commit then I will understand I will find myself another man All I want, all I need is just someone to love You know you are the first one on my list But you are swimming school of fish I won't cry, I won't cry if I am denied I'm giving you the first right to refuse I will find a man that I can use All I want, all I need is just someone to love Someone to love me every morning Someone to love me through the day and the night Someone to kiss me and to thrill me Someone to squeeze me, Baby hold me tight I have tried to make you mine But I can damn sure find another guy All I want, all I need is just someone to love I ain't never told you what to do You've done everything you wanted to It's a crime, Lord it's a crime For me to change your mind If you want me Baby take my hand I'll be your woman you can be my man All I want, all I need is just someone to love

Blues on the loveseat Where we used to kiss I’m alone in my living room And my man is sorely missed I got the blues all over Blues won’t let me be I got the blues all over Blues all over me Blues on the table At his empty seat I was feeling mighty hungry But the blues won’t let me eat I got the blues all over Blues won’t let me be I got the blues all over Blues all over me Blues when I’m happy Blues when I am sad Blues my only comfort When he makes me mad Blues where I’m going Blues everywhere behind I can’t get rid of all my blues And now I’ve quit from trying Blues in the cupboard On the shelf by the gin I’m drinking by myself Because he did not come home again I got the blues all over Blues won’t let me be I got the blues all over Blues all over me Blues in the bedroom In the middle of the night He’s passed out here beside me So he cannot hold me tight I got the blues all over Blues won’t let me be I got the blues all over Blues all over me

I can’t remember The last time you smiled We haven’t made love In such a long, long while If it’s over We’d better move on But when you leave me Leave me alone So many nights I spent by your side So many more Without you I cried And it ain’t right You’re doing me wrong So when you leave me Leave me alone When you leave me Leave me alone Don’t write me letters Don’t call me on the phone I’ll be just fine When I’m finally on my own So when you leave me Leave me alone

My Man 03:08
My man is so good to me Every date is like a jubilee He tickles my fancy, tickles me pink Tickles me silly ‘til I’m giddy with glee My man don’t gimme no jive Tells me that he’ll love me ‘til the day he dies I’m his little Baby, apple of his eyes He’s my man My man butters my bread And scratches my back while we’re laying in the bed He works like a mule, but he’s a thoroughbred Like a Triple Crown winner he’s spirited My man don’t care where I’ve been Long as we’re together through thick and thin We ain’t married just living in sin He’s my man My man reads me like a book Knows every cranny and every nook I’m the little fish that he finally hooked He’ll rock and roll me ‘til I’m shivered and shook My man is a ladies man Treats this lady best that he can He lets me lick his candy, he’s my candy man That’s my man My man carries all the heavy stuff And climbs my ladder and calls my bluff He’ll let me keep going when he’s had enough That’s my man My man is out of sight Loves me every minute of every night And if he hears me holler he’ll quit alright Cause he’s my man My man picks me up when I’m blue And tills the soil in my backyard, too He loves his little lady, I’m his little boogaloo He’s my man My man gives me everything All kinds of diamonds and a golden ring And a pretty pearl necklace Every time I sing into the microphone My man, oh he’s my man

If I Can't 03:23
If I can’t have you Baby I don’t want nobody else If I can’t be your lady I’ll just be alone all by myself I can’t fall for another While you’re on my mind You’re the kind of Baby I’ve been hoping to find If I can’t have you Baby Don’t want nobody else I don’t want nobody else No, no, I don’t want nobody else If I can’t see you Cutie I would rather to go blind If I can’t gaze upon your face Go on and take my eyes Don’t want to look at nothing If I can’t see you Not the sea, the mountains Or the skies of blue If I can’t see you Cutie I would rather to go blind I would rather to go blind I ain’t much good without you Babe, it’s plain to see I was made for you And you were made for me Maybe you should marry me And make me your wife I could make you happy For the rest of your life If I can’t kiss you Honey Don’t want to keep these idle lips I won’t be grinning when you’re funny Or drinking no whisky sips Your kiss is sweet as whispers From a gentle breeze Tingles me all over Makes me weak in my knees If I can’t kiss you Honey Don’t want to keep my idle lips Oh no, don’t want to keep my idle lips If I can’t hold you Lover I’ll have to give my arms away They feel strange on another And never have a tendency to stray Oh you feel so strong And you feel so fine I’d like to hold you Lover ‘Til the end of time If I can’t hold you Lover I’ll have to give my arms away I’ll have to give my arms away If I can’t have you Baby I don’t want nobody else

I see you with that young thing All over town Hard to believe for that You put your old lady down Hey Daddy, oh Daddy can’t you see? She’s in love with your wallet Not your personality I know that you’re grown I know that she is too But she is half your age She’s just a baby to you Oh Daddy, oh Daddy can’t you see? She’s in love with your wallet Not your personality She wants a sugar daddy Just to pay her bills She’s barely middle aged And you are over the hill She’ll take you for money Push comes to shove Money can buy a lot But it won’t buy you love Oh Daddy can’t you see? She’s in love with your wallet Not your personality You bought her fancy dresses Gold and diamonds too You even bought her a house She gave it back to you Oh Daddy, Daddy can’t you see? She’s in love with your wallet Not your personality Look at all the money That she’s done spent She’s wasting all you saved For your retirement She’ll take you for your money Push comes to shove Money can buy a lot But it won’t buy you love Oh Daddy can’t you see? She’s in love with your wallet Not your personality It’s your money to burn You can do what you choose You’ve done a lot for her But what’s she done for you? She’ll take you for your money Push comes to shove Money can buy a lot But it won’t buy you love Oh Daddy can’t you see? She’s in love with your wallet Not your personality

about

As the crow flies, the distance between Greenville, MS and New Orleans, LA is just 300 miles. But when pianist Eden Brent traveled from her hometown of Greenville to the Crescent City to record 'Ain't Got No Troubles,' her sophomore album for Yellow Dog Records, she added 100 miles to the journey, eschewing the interstate for the meandering country highways that parallel the Mississippi River's serpentine route.

That circuitous road trip, which ended at New Orleans' Piety Street Studios (Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint, The Blind Boys of Alabama) was a quest to further broaden her sound: Working with bassist George Porter, Jr., she and Linden injected her gritty, rootsy music with spicy elements that earmark the unmistakable Crescent City sound.

Brent penned eight of the twelve tracks for her sparkling new album, the most she's written for a single record to date. They exhibit a keen sense of clever wordplay -- the juke joint jumper "In Love With Your Wallet" invokes the wry observations of fellow Mississippi muse Mose Allison, while the vaudeville throwback "My Man" is peppered with double entendre. But there's also considerable nuance: the sly tenderness of the intimate "If I Can't", the after-hours anguish of "Blues All Over," and the soulful, heartbreaking ballad "Leave Me Alone."

Brent modestly describes the album's title track as her "tribute to the open, carefree lifestyle of her hometown along the Mississippi river," but it's much more than that: It's a near-iconic blues song that has the singer finding ironic contentment in the things she lacks. No money, no friends, no man -- and, therefore, no worries. It's as pointed a summation of the blues aesthetic as you're likely to hear. Or as another great songwriter once said, "When you ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose."
