It was early in the morning I was almost out the door Got a call from my bossman He said, "I cannot use you no more" I got the Washington County My factory done shut down blues There ain't no good news I got the Mississippi flatland blues I went out to Boeing I thought I'd be flying high But they closed down and sold the parts And left me high and dry I got a job at Vlasic Puttin' pickles in a jar But they shut down and GMAC Came and took my car Cocaine took my fella The banker took my home The streets have got my children And I'm sitting here alone I'm so blue and downhearted I've almost lost my will I've even thought of suicide But I ain't fit to kill If the C & G makes enough money To fix there worn-out track I'm gonna hop a freight train I swear I ain't never coming back

My man must not love me He never treats me right He’s gone all through the daytime And he’s laying out all night But I love my fella He can do just what he’ll do And I’m warning every woman He will do the same thing to you He spent all of my money On someone else’s gal Now I’m broke and hungry And her husband is mad as hell …And I’m warning every man He ain’t gonna leave for good He’s been with me too long Every time he strays away He comes right on back home You can heed my warning You can learn the hard way too Even though that man is mine He’ll do the same thing to you He is a two-timing scoundrel That’s without a doubt He's been with every woman He even asked my Mama out …And I’m warning every mother If you see my fella Better send him on home to me I don’t mind the heartache Or my life of misery …And I'm warning everybody

It’s the night time and the right time For the kissing we’ve been missing So enfold me, Honey, hold me And love me, love me ‘til dawn I’m on fire with desire And this burning keeps me yearning For you to please me, start to squeeze me And love me, love me ‘til dawn The morning sun will soon erase The night in all it’s splendor I have waited oh so long Why won’t you surrender? So come on Baby, don’t say “maybe” I’m not guessing, love’s a blessing It’s so thrilling, and I’m so willing For you to love me, love me ‘til dawn

There ain’t nothing but a two-lane highway Between me and my childhood home I was born in the county Where there was plenty of room to roam I couldn’t get into too much trouble But I sure had a lot of fun Mimosa trees, the birds and the bees On Mississippi Number One It cuts right through the Delta Stretches far as two eyes can see It won’t take you all the way to Vicksburg Or to Memphis Tennessee Westward lies the levee With the river running by its side And when the levee broke in ‘27 There was no place to run and hide Mississippi Number 1 Carry me to my home Where the Delta Blues was born Along miles and miles of sandy loam Mississippi Number 1 Delta Great River Road I’m Greenville bound past the Indian Mounds On Mississippi Number 1 It’s a dead end south at 14 It’s a dead end north at 49 It’s the last of the bluest highways I recommend it if you have the time It won’t get you there in a hurry But you're sure to have a lot of fun Rolling Fork up to Friars Point On Mississippi Number 1 The ghosts of a thousand bluesmen Where many has met his end Fooling around with someone else’s gal A Delta legend was born again It’s a very familiar story Crossroads on a moonlit run And if you get there late the devil surely will wait On Mississippi Number 1

Thinking of your body Remembering your face I’ve just got to be with you I’ll meet you anyplace Your absence shoots through me Like a bullet shot through the air I can’t wait to meet you anywhere Pondering your motion Imagining your touch I conjure every inch of you I love them all so much The distance between us Is more than a body can bear I can’t wait to meet you anywhere We can meet in Phoenix Or in Birmingham Meet me in St. Louis, Baby I don’t give a damn Meet me in the middle Or I’ll meet you all the way I can’t live without you, Darling Not for one more day We can meet in Greenville Or in Syracuse Where it’s at is where I’m at As long as it’s with you You can write me letters You can call me on the phone If I can’t be next to you I’d rather be alone Though the world is smaller It’s getting bigger for me everyday My heart and soul are limber But my body gets in the way I’ll meet you where you’re going If you will have me there I can’t wait to meet you anywhere

Lying here beside you Listening to you breathe Wanting you so much I cannot get to sleep I'm worried, Baby Worried where this might lead The promise of tomorrow Or goodbye in the morning sun Afraid to let go Even though we've just begun Another lover hurt me It wasn't worth the chance Of a broken-hearted morning After one night of romance Aren't you worried, Baby? Worried where this might lead? Toss the wind my caution And with it past regret Even the broken-hearted Must learn how to forget To be worried, Baby Worried where this might lead

Close the door and walk away I won’t be waiting I won’t be wondering about That girl you’ll hold tonight If you want her more than me I’m gonna have to set you free And there’s nothing more to say Close the door and walk away Well it wasn’t long ago That you said that you loved me Promised I’d be yours Until the end of time But now I’m not the one You tell your lies to I’m not the one who’s in your dreams And on your mind So close the door and walk away I’m through with heartache Lord, I’m through With loneliness and tears If she means that much to you I’ve done all that I can do And there’s nothing more to say Close the door and walk away

All Over Me 03:34
Fifteen years Fifteen hundred miles Fifteen thousand words Fifteen million smiles You're just like the sun Far away but I see Your love light shining down All over me A man in the moon A light in the night Love so sweet Makes me feel all right You’re just like the moon I remember the day that we met We didn't dare do anything That we might regret But lately something's happened To make us forget Yeah, made me feel so good It keeps me so upset All over you Just out of reach Just so far I'll make a wish On that shooting star You're just like the stars Even though the miles may keep us apart You're right where you belong Wrapped inside of my heart Even if I knew We could never be free You'll always be the best thing That has happened to me All over me

Until I Die 04:21
I had given up on belonging Given up on finding you Broken and disheartened Lonesome and blue Suddenly in the night Your love took me by surprise And I know, yes I know I will be with you Until the day that I die Yes, my simple life was so easy Easier to be alone With solitary pleasures I made it on my own Since I found you Love has opened my eyes And I know, yes I know I will be with you Until the day that I die Until I die You'll be here beside me Until I die You'll be here to guide me And When I cry You'll wipe the tears from my eyes Until I die Until the day that I die

about

2006 International Blues Challenge winner Eden Brent is a masterful blues and boogie pianist and vocal stylist. Dubbed “Little Boogaloo” by her mentor and duo partner, the late Abie “Boogaloo” Ames, this Mississippi Delta native holds a degree in music performance but credits Ames’ down-home tutelage with teaching her how to “really play.”

Described by one critic as “Bessie Smith meets Diana Krall meets Janis Joplin,” other reviewers have compared her to Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn and Norah Jones. Never mind the comparisons. Eden’s fresh voice is one-of-a-kind, and her distinctive style, fusing elements of blues, jazz, soul, gospel and pop, is turning the heads of roots music lovers nationwide.
