I’ve got Mabel Scott singing this one on a compilation called “Hipster’s Holilday” that also includes Eartha Kitt singing “Santa Baby”. I’ve been playing & singing “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus” during the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas for more than 20 years. This kind of jump boogie with the double bass line is the very thing that I initially wanted Boogaloo to teach me how to play, so there’s a lot of his influence in this recording. Bob’s arrangement harks back to the 1940’s swing era and the time when the line between jazz and blues was more blurred and overlapped.
